Amazing.  Most articles I read about "hackers" define them as someone who
tweaks programs aimlessly instead of doing something productive, and
paint them as freaks who can't deal with people at all except through
electronic mail, never sleep, and in general convey the message "you
wouldn't want your daughter to marry one".  I always thought a hacker
was a person who enjoys programming and takes pride in his work.
But I haven't read the Rolling Stone article.  (I also once heard someone
on the west coast claim that a hacker was a person who tries to break
into a system.)
