uucico for other machines
A recent article in net.micro spoke of a version of uucico for the
trash-80.  It all sounds nice, but WATCH OUT!
The usenet is getting big, with more sites and flow every day.
There is debate as to whether it can grow much more without collapse
of some sort.  Exactly the thing to bring this on is the introduction
of microcomputers to the forray.

There are over 1,000,000 micros out there right now.  A growing portion
of them have modems and a large portion of those include autodialing/
autoanswering modems like those for the apple from Hayes and Novation.
The figures are staggering.  Naturally, we can restrict things by only
letting limited numbers of micros have uucp logins on our machines.
(gone will be the days of no password uucp logins) Even so, each micro
may be connected to many others, and a large portion of the world will
think that the uucp/usenet is a great way to get free electronic mail
at the expense of DEC and BTL.  The DCA will quickly take note of the
fact that any microcomputer owner can send and receive mail to arpanet
machines, and that will go away too.

It would be nice to have a big, large scale usenet, but the way we have
it now just can't support the load micros would bring.

Beware!
