Ann Arbor Ambassadors
Ann Arbor Ambassador glitch.
I have one of these terminals attached to a Sytek Localnet 20
t-box. Revision 2.19Q of the Localnet software (and therefore the new
base release) has a "permanent virtual circuit" set up that can be useful
except that the Ann Arbor doesn't co-operate. During the power-up of the
terminal, it appears to put the Data Terminal Ready (DTR) up and down
several times. When asked about this, Ann Arbor said,
"With regards to DTR, we do not support flow control by signal.
This is to be consistent with the sequence of the Reset and Setup Z,
which do not take DTR low. The reasoning behind this is that for
those users with modems, dropping DTR would terminate the phone
connection and require redialing."
Well, I don't know what they thought I said, but what I did ask was that
they not assert DTR in a power-up sequence until the terminal is fully
powered up and the self-checks have been passed.
DTR should probably be dropped on Setup Z, because this is a full terminal
reset and diagnostic. If they don't put it down, how do they know that
they can? Anybody feel as stronly on this as I do?
