control
Subject: control operator supervision
From: Frank Starmer (KB4GZ) [duke!cfs]

I do not believe that one can control multiple 'stations' without
some sort of direct control.  Part 97 states that any third party
can participate provided that a control operator is present and
continuously monitors and supervises the radiocommunication to
insure compliance with the rules.  For 2 meter repeater operation
this usually means ability to terminate a transmission (as in
autopatch operation) when the transmission is not in accordance
with good amateur practice.  My guess would be that 'supervision'
is usually interpreted as the ability of the control operator
to control (either directly or indirectly) the operation of a
station either manually or by some remote facility that provides
the equivalent of manual control.

[May I be struck by lightning by what I'm about to say] Have you
considered using some of the low power (500 milliwatt) handitalkies
that operate in the !! 11 meter !! band?  I believe they are cheap
and available through places like radio shaft.
