The packet radio net he refers to is the 'aloha net' (sp?) which was later
refined into 'slotted aloha'.  However, it is over commercial carrier, not
amateur radio service.
Some people believe that this early research laid the groundwork for the
'ether net' of Xerox PARC.
As Mark says, it has been in operation for several years linking terminals
and computers throughout the Hawaiian islands.
