REAGONOMICS SCUTTLES SOFTWARE EFFORT

Software designers will soon be affected by President Reagan's budget
cuts even more than they suspect [sic]. Since 1978, the Department of
Energy has given Lawrence Berkeley Labs ... funds to provide
organizational support to the 1700-member Software Tools Users Group.
The lab has collected and evaluated tools, accumulated sets of utilities,
and disseminated information about both of those areas to the group's
members. Now, however, the DOE is slated for oblivion, and the seed
money is about to stop. Unless private enterprise comes to rescue
when Uncle Sam leaves off, the Software Tools Users Group will probably
disintegrate. Software designers who wish to help financially ot to use
the available tools can contact Debbie Scherrer at Lawrence Berekely,
