Network Balloting
After watching some 40 or 50 articles come across the network on
the subject of the disposition of the space newsgroups, I am
ready to propose that we drop the absurd idea that we are running
a networked democracy here. It is a waste of the bandwidth of the
net, and of my time, and of my system's disk space (50 articles
times min 1024 bytes each = 50Kb) to carry on these extended
'Yeah' or 'Nay' votes. And the idea of (to quote my learned
collegue Randal Schwartz) "a second round of voting" sends
shivers up my spine.
I propose that when a question of the type that is asked (i.e.
"What should we do about thus-and-such?"), it be first directed
to Mark, who then proceed to direct it BY MAIL to **News Administrators**
on all of the machines which are on the net. These administrators
then have the obligation of determining the views of their
proletariat, and responding to Mark with the result. What this
boils down to is: ***ONE VOTE PER SITE***. Maybe this could
be done with a 'ctl' message.
Alternatively, set up some newsgroup like 'net.news.vote' so that
I can turn it off.
