AT&T settles with Government
AT&T and the U.S. government have settled their seven-year-old anti-trust
suit out of court.  Under the terms of the settlement, AT&T will divest
itself of the local operating companies; it will retain AT&T Long Lines
(the long distance service), Western Electric, and Bell Labs.  The
reorganization will be completed within 18 months.

In the meantime, trading in IBM stock has been suspended pending a
3pm meeting in U.S. District Court.  Sources say that a major announce-
ment is pending, but no one will disclose just what it is.
