Subject: the program 'speak'
A couple of people here have gotten extremely interested in
speech synthesis since the introduction of Votrax's SC-01
single chip phoneme synthesizer. One such person (Jim Briggs,
login jmb) has ordered one, and is planning to connect it to
an SCCS-85 (a single card, 8085 based computer with serial
and parallel output, designed at pur-ee).
Why do I bring this up here? Well, I remember that at one time
it was possible to get Mike Lesk's text to speech algorithm
for UN*X from Bell, as part of a distribution. It was called
'speak' at the time. We would like to get a copy and compile
it onto the SCCS board, to run a standalone synthesizer.
Except I don't know how to get speak. It doesn't seem to be on
my v7 tape. Does anyone out there have a copy? If so, could
I get it?
Thanks,
Chris
