Forcing uucp polls
The manual would have you believe that

       /usr/lib/uucp/uucico -r1 -sblarg

is the proper way to poll system blarg.  In fact, given the finite
number of dialout lines available on most systems, and the general
unreliability of uucp connections, this is not suitable for sites polled
less frequently than once every 2 hours or so.  Instead, we use the
following:

       touch /usr/spool/uucp/C.blargn0000
       /usr/lib/uucp/uucico -r1

It's best to put these shortly before the normal uucico invocation from
cron.
