HELLO from uiucdcs

       Greetings,

This is the Unix system at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Department of Computer Science (uiucdcs).  We are running an extremely
hacked version 6 system (many of the hacks relate to imported v7
software).  Our main processor is a PDP 11/60 with 256 Kb MOS, 50 Mb disk,
and 61 (yes sixty one) terminal lines.  We primarily do document preparation
using a qume twintrack for output, though there is one group using the
system to simulate the Massively Parallel Processor that Goodyear is
developing for NASA (NASA grant).  If you are wondering about system
performance, things do tend to get slow when twenty people are logged in.

Most but not all the members of the department have signons on this
system so if anyone out on USENET wants to try electronic mail dialogues
with someone in the department just send me a note and I will see if they
want to talk back.  Most of our real electronic mail freaks have
signons at DTI and use arpa for their habits but if you can't get
to the arpanet or they do not use DTI feel free to try this installation.

                                       Jerry Wall (system administrator)
                                       (duke!uiucdcs!jerry)
