Regarding his allegations of strong ties between computer science and
mathematics, where does *software engineering* fit in?  I dare say that
for many of us, software engineering is the best label for what we do,
although we were probably schooled in "computer science" and may
informally refer to ourselves as "programmers".

With this distinction, maybe computer science (the part that's NOT
software engineering, and NOT programming) *does* relate closely to
mathematics.  Maybe.  And maybe not very many of us would be computer
scientists then, either (nor want to be?).
