I agree with Andy. Foo.followup is ridiculous, as is the now standard
practice of submitting articles to whatever group one has a whim to use
or invent.  For Usenet to become really practical and a model for future,
more public systems, some ways must be found to help the users: 1) know
what is going on and expected of them in use of the net, and 2) limit the
amount of unwanted material that must be scanned.  The readnews program is
the vehicle for experiments in this area.  I wish the authors would stop
making it more complicated and gadgetty, and address these fundamental
