USENIX and /sr/group
Contrary to the opinion expressed by decvax!aps, SHARE and GUIDE both
entertain vendors other than IBM; one difference between the two organizations
used to be (I do not know the present status) whether these are vendors of
hardware, software or both.  In any event, I was a member of the SHARE
"kitchen cabinet" when it met in San Francisco (1966) to formulate a SHARE
position in response to IBM's then recently announced shift to unbundle
software.  Our positon was, if they unbundle software, then we will accomodate
others who also offer software for $$ for our IBM machines.

The recent net.followup item on this topic did not convince me that
the USENIX - /usr/group relationship is very different from that between
SHARE and GUIDE years ago.  And, I reiterate, whether or not my view
is accepted, I really couldn't hurt to meet with people who have
experience with user groups and learn from them.
