Forgive the short notice but if you would like to attend the Survive game
workshop tomorrow night at 7:30 in Los Altos (people are coming from Berkeley)
call me at 941-7990 today or sndmsg me Thursday.
The Survive game is the working name of the Game Writing Group Group Game. The
grand fantasy encompases the interests of the group. It is to be a
multi-player animated adventure simulating the effect of things like the
Survive game on the world ... modifyable by players not already programmers
while they play ... published as a meta game across networks so any player can
find the parts ... writers directly supported by players.
In the workshop tomorrow night a small number of interested people will make
the initial specifications for the first, next and ultimate Survive games.
Also here is the flyer for the monthly homebrew-club-type meeting the following
week.
Authoring Fiction and Games
We have an especially interesting line up for this Game Writing Group meeting.
The computer faire last month and the Game Fair at the last Graphics Gathering
turned up lots of interesting speakers for future meetings.
Here is what is planned for this Thursday May 28:
GROW
Jeff Levinsky will talk to us about a language called "grow" he has
developed for writing Adventure Games on micro-computers. Grow is also for
authoring creative Computer Assisted Instruction programs and dynamic
knowledge networks.
Simon and Schuster
David Obst from Simon and Schuster's Paramount office in L.A. wants to talk
about pairing programmers with fiction authors to come up with adventure
games based on popular works like "the God Father" and "Looking for Mr.
Goodbar."
Science Fiction
Science Fiction Writers Malcom Easton and Coleman Brack will tell us about
writing for the SciFi / Fantasy market. Malcom has stories published in
Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Journal and in the Fantasy and Science
Fiction magazine.
VA
Eddie Oshins will tell us about work he's planning at the VA Hospital with
computer games.
Survive Game.
The Group Game people will reveal the initial specifications for the Survive
Game.
And lots more
You might tell us a little about what you're doing.
Which really adds up to alot!
Thursday May 28 at 7:30 pm in the Sheridan Apartments Community Room, 360
Sheridan, Palo Alto. Off El Camino; first street North of Page Mill. Free as
usual. Please bring/tell a friend. -- Kirk (415) 941-7990.
By the way, interesting discussions could linger into the night if we find
another place to meet where we can stay after 10:00. Can you think of any
place?
