Wanted: Self-study programming text
I was just helping a co-worker with a C program he is trying to write, and
it became clear to me that what he needed was a good programming text.  He
*has* the C book by Kernighan & Ritchie - I consider this to be a good
description of C, and what he needs now is a good description of *programming*.
Things I have in mind are the basics, like when/how to use a loop, what an
array is, etc.  I've taught this kind of thing a number of times, but it
seems (in retrospect, at least) that the weakest part of all the books we
used was the conceptual part, about programming itself.

Suggestions, anyone?
(Posting items to the net is encouraged, especially as they describe how
a book may or may not meet the above criteria.)
