Re: rice cookers
They work great for cooking rice (I've never tried to use one for anything
else).  I can't remember the last time I made rice with anything else.  You
do have to add the right amount of water, as the cooker won't protect you from
soggy or dry/hard rice.  Other than that, they give you just about perfect
rice with virtually zero effort.

I have one made by National which I have been happy with.  My parents have
one made by Toshiba which also works well.  They're fairly common.  I think
I've seen them in department stores.  Otherwise, you can get one in most
any Chinese/Japanese store that sells appliances (If there's a chinatown
near you, you're sure to find them there).  Many oriental foods stores
also carry them (that's where I got mine).
