Making yogurt with no equipment
Yogurt makers are unnecessary if you have a gas oven, or an electric oven
with a light in it.  The pilot light keeps the oven about the right temp.
       6 cups warm water
       3 cups powdered milk

2 cups real milk or 1 cup cream
1/4 cup yogurt -- don't use too much or you'll get sour yogurt
Mix first three ingredients in a large non-metallic bowl. In a cup,
mix the yogurt with a cup of the milk mixture, then stir well into the bowl
Set the bowl in the oven until it slops around like yogurt, about 8 hours,
and then refrigerate.  I usually put some of the yogurt in a glass in the
oven so it's easier to check for doneness.  This comes out fairly sweet,
in comparison with store-bought.  It will be more sour/tart if you
let it incubate longer or use more starter.  Also, you may need to prop your
oven open 1/2" to keep the temperature down.  Cost ~~ 10 cents/cup.
