Space Station
With STS-3 now over (though the scientific data will take a
year or more to fully analyze), NASA is wrapping up a proposal
to the White House for a manned space station by the end of
this decade.  Working with the DoD and Pentagon, NASA hopes to
establish a permanent presence, at first both military and civilian
together, in space.  They hope to start with a 3 man module and
expand that into a 20 man station.  The USSR is shooting for a
12 to 14 man station by 1985.  NASA is considering a joint venture
with Japan and the ESA, but nothing is definite yet.
