SBS and BTI
Satellite Business Systems, a partnership of COMSAT General Corp.,
Aetna Life and Casualty, and IBM, has announced the agreement with
the British Telecom International that will allow SBS to enter the
international communications scene.  The agreement, subject to
approval by the FCC, with BTI will let customers of both expand
their high-speed communication networks to ``both sides of the
Atlantic.''  If the application is approved by the middle of 1982,
SBS hopes to start the new service by the forth quarter of that
year.  It calls for the use of INTELSAT satellites for the
trans-oceanic part of a transmission, with SBS and BTI taking
care of the distribution in their parts of the world.  Both
would split the profits.  The service will be primarily involved
with high-speed data, facsimile, electronic mail (!), and video
teleconferenceing links.
