update
The Columbia landed at Cape Canaveral today at 1319 EST,
NASA said that first indications were that it sustained
no damage during the flight from Edwards.

A missionary, back from Africa, has given Kennedy Space
Center officials a charred metal cylinder, smaller than
a fist, that fell to Earth from space.  Officials say that
it is probably part of a decayed satellite, possibly Soviet.
