Frankly, I don't think columbia is really providing THAT much in the way
of immediacy over a digest.  Because of UUCP scheduling delays and such,
many sites don't get much more than one feed a day anyway.  This means
that when the stuff finally comes in, all they see is a string
of bulletins (5 tiles, no 10, no 12...), with only the last one being
really up-to-date.  One daily summary entry in the digest would probably
be just as useful, and make better use of the available bandwidth as
well... for some people these items cost money.

I see your point.  However, take the example in which
nothing flows into the space digest for a few days.
This means that the time between two digest could be
as great as 4 days (remember when OTA was away and
we got a whole big digest at once?)  I do agree that
one summary can be advantageous over 4 or 5 little
blips, but sometimes the few separate articles make
more sense separate than they would together.  Also,
I cannot anticipate when I will have enough to put
out one summary.  On school days, I read my news at
3 points, before school, at 5:30, and again at 8:00.
I usually consolidate any articles that come together
at one point and put them in then, but I don't usually
hold them over to the next point.

In all, I agree that net.columbia is not perfect and
has its flaws.  User response like this helps to correct
them and make suggestions as to what should be done.
Keem 'em comin'!
