ls error messages
Ls(1) does not send (at least some of) its error messages to stderr but
rather sends them to stdout.

Example:
Given an empty directory called junk,
when the command
       ls junk/* 2>/dev/null
is executed, the error message
       junk/* not found
is written to stdout, instead of being written to stderr (/dev/null).
