Subject: Programming for Personal Workstations

Are the techniques that will be used for programming personal
workstations going to be different to those of current  scale
implementations?

How will one program workstations? Will it be easier? Will there
be other proceedures than those of large systems or simply a
reduced scale of large system design?

The excellent August (July?) issue of \Byte\ was dedicated to Smalltalk,
written completely by members of the Smalltalk development group.  This
is the best source of information about Smalltalk until the two books
come out.

If I remember correctly from that issue, the old Smalltalk virtual
memory system (called OOZE) allowed as many as 64K objects, but that
limit was reached, so the new system allows more than 64K objects.
This means that the Intel iAPX [what do those letters stand for?] 432,
which allows no more than 64K objects, would make a bad Smalltalk
engine.
