A while ago I asked whether there was anyone who wanted to know
more about the Chaosnet. I got about eight answers, and I'm
sorry I have taken so long to respond. It seems like the best
thing to do is just tell everyone about the paper that now
exists and explains everything about the Chaosnet.
The paper is called "Chaosnet", by David A. Moon. The abstract
is as follows:
Chaosnet is a local network, that is, a system for communi-
cation among a group of computers located within about 1000
meters of each other. Originally developed by the Artificial
Intelligence Laboratory as the internal communications medium
of the Lisp Machine system, it has since come to be used to
link a variety of machines around MIT and elsewhere.
This memo describes both the hardware and the software protocols.
It is intended to be the definitive documentation for Chaosnet.
You can order a hardcopy of this paper from the A.I. Lab by asking
for A.I. Memo 628. The address is:
