The Bravo (& BravoX) secretary-type editors on the PARC
Altos have the "save every keystroke and the original file so
that we can always reconstruct" hack.  When the system starts
to reconstruct it puts a cute "Your Editor is Experiencing
Temporary Difficulties, Please Standy By" message on the
screen, much in the style of the message TV stations read
out over the air after they drop the camera on the floor.

What ever happened to Ted(tm) Nelson's Hypertext system,
where the entire state of the document (down to the time between
keystrokes of the person editing in) was saved, and the viewer
of the document had the option of expanding the footnotes into
the referenced texts, and all that sort of thing?  I think that
he was even addressing the problems of copyright & royalty
payments. . . perhaps I should mail this to human-nets, instead.
