Request for information
>From allegra!psuvax!boykin@Berkeley Tue Nov 10 04:28:12 1981
We have been having some hardware (?) problems with our VAX for
quite some time.  DEC has been in for as much as a week at a time
with no success in finding the problem.  Kernel Stack Pointer (KSP)
invalids and CPU double-error halts have been our most prominent
errors.  The crashses have occured as frequently as every ten minutes.
Each time DEC comes in the problem re-occurs once or
twice, then vanishes for the next two weeks to two months.  No one
has yet been able to diagnose the problem.

I have two requests:
Firstly, I would like to find out if anyone has been having serious,
untraceable problems with their systems.

Secondly, if someone could supply me with an approximate number of
systems currently running UNIX (in particular 4.xxBSD).

DEC has made an effort to find the problem, but of course is anxious
to blame it on everything but their machine, especially on the UNIX kernel.
I am hoping the information requested above will give us some
ammunition to fight back with.
