       2048 frames/tape record is absurd!  We would all get eaten alive
by Inter-Record Gaps if 2048 was the limit.

       The only "enforced" limit that I know of is 64K frames/record,
mostly because IBM tape drives use a 16 bit byte count.  This "IBM
Compatability" has carried forwards into most plug compatible peripherals.
Note that many CDC systems can read records a large as you like, but this
is not generally useful...
