Since there have been several references to the "Purdue Network" recently
in "unix-wizards", this item is intended to prevent any confusion or
misinformation about it.

The entire system was originally developed by William Croft while employed
at the School of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University.  He is now
with SRI.  The EE school appears on Usenet and Uucp as "pur-ee" which is
not to be confused with the uucp site "purdue" (the CS department).

The network currently operates here in the Engineering Computer Network
with two Vax 11/780s running 4.1BSD (one Vax is the Dual-Processor variety),
two PDP 11/70s and three PDP 11/45s running V7 UNIX, one PDP 11/45 running
V6 UNIX, and one PDP 11/40 running standalone network code.  Soon there
will be three or four more Vax 11/780s.  The system uses DMC-11s, while
DA-11s (two DR11Bs back-to-back) are also supported.

If others who have implemented the "Croft" ("Purdue/EE") network have
other capabilities, such as serial-line network connections, implementations
in other operating systems, we would be interested in hearing about it.
