Re: newgrp
I've got a new "newgrp" that is less idiotic about what you
can do: it lets you enter a group if you are
(1) a listed member
(2) already in it
(3) have it as your login default
(4) can supply the group's password
(5) are super-user
and does NOT log you out if you make a typing error (it
starts a new shell without changing your group id.)

Since #4 is pretty useless if there is no way to set a
group's password, I've also got a grppasswd program, just
like passwd but for /etc/group.

If you want the program run as a subshell, you can make
a link to newgrp (e.g., "newgroup") which the shell will,
of course, execute as a subprocess.

Interested parties may ask me to mail them a tar-format
file with these two programs and their manual pages.
