Davis Polk was originally going to buy 5 Vaxen to provide "Office Automation"
to our large office using Unix.  When I took a look at what you gave up to
run Unix under VMS (IS/1 was the only Vax Unix around at the time), I talked
them into buying 11/70s instead.  I guess that I would feel the same way about
any VMS/Unix, however; the things I didn't like about VMS/IS/1 came from VMS
rather than ISC's implementation, (file tree depth limitations, inability
to treat files as byte streams, etc.).  Do you really \have/ to have VMS?

This is in reply to Andy Tanenbaum's question.  I only realized after I'd
typed the whole letter that it was going to be sent by netnews to unix-wizards.
Our "reply" interface to netnews is very dumb and won't let me re-route it...
