It doesn't always work, folks! Last week, I think I submitted 5 letters to
ucbvax!unix-wizards, and got each one of them back the very next day, saying
'service unavailable'. Depending on the message, I either shipped it
back right away, or just put it in net.general, in disgust.

While I realize that ucbvax is doing us a service by providing a gateway,
and I find the Arpa news digest quite useful, I think we should be able to
do better. Quite a while ago I submitted a flame about this (which
seemingly disappeared into the bit bucket somewhere) where I basically
called on someone on the east coast or in the midwest to come on line
as another Arpa gateway. Then we could split the Arpa/UUCP net in half,
and balance the traffic between the two. What would be nice is if about
five gateways would show up at once, so no one would get the shaft.
