Subject: lock drivers

has anyone build a locking machine use the multiplexor?  Processes could
write messages like

       LOCK /usr/spool/mail/someone SHR

etc.; the process could respond when the resource was available.  A close
on the lockfile would be an indication to release all locks held there.
