V7 vs. non-I/D cpus
Contrary to Mark's statement, anyone who has inspected /usr/sys/40
knows that V7 is indeed intended to support non-I/D machines, albeit
rather poorly.  Human Computing Resources, Dec Merrimack, USGS Menlo
Park, and probably others I don't know about, have spent considerable
effort improving the quality of this support.
