We have been looking for this too.  It seems to me that
DEC is serving an antiquated model of batch processing when they assume
eople will want the log printed and deleted by default.  We didn't
even find the rather clever hack of using non existaent device,
but redirected it to a different file instead.  The problem is that any
such action has effects on users' perfectly legitimate desires to
print a file explicitly within their control files.
