Re: tvi 950 magic cookie

The "magic cookie" standout glitch means that switching display modes
consumes a visible character position on the screen. It also has an
undesirable coupling between whether things like CLEAR SCREEN transmit,
and whether TAB and BACKSPACE transmit; the default termcap entry for
4.1BSD UNIX seems to turn all of them off. And the keyboard in hard
enough to type on as to make the terminal almost unusable for me.
My own favorite terminal is the HP2621; the new 2621B is quite nice
except for the CAPS mode glitch I mentioned recently. But it does cost
more ($1300) than the TVI950. A cheap terminal I've heard
well-recommended is the H-19/Z-19; it's VT-52 compatible, I believe.
