In reference to the VT100 and its popularity:
1) It works very well at what is was designed to do.
2) It has many features that are in demand
3) It conforms to the ANSI escape sequence standard!
I would urge the people responsible for termcap/ex/vi (whatever)
to create a flaging option that tells termlib/termcap that the
terminal is an ANSI standard terminal. Then most of the massive
information for capability driving could be indicated by simply
including flags that the capability is available on the terminal.
It might be necessary to indicate non-ANSI capabilities
in a longer form, but that could be much simpler.
