thoughts on a vi quiz

I enjoyed your (ucdvax!sdcsvax!draper) reply to bill's quiz (which I have not
seen, since I just signed up for this newsgroup).

It may be obvious, but Tom Moran, and Stu Card of PARC have developed and
verified a keystroke-level model such as you describe, in particular, it
incorporates the 'mental' time which you so correctly point out is critical
to the productivity issue.  Their work has been published in CACM in the
July, 1980 issue pp. 396-410. A later, related work was published in the
Human Factors in Computer Systems conference by Terry Roberts (held Mar 15-17
1982 in Gaithersberg, MD) on page 136.

Rumelhart, Norman, and their colleagues at UCSD have a competing model to
that of Moran and Card.  Interested readers should compare their results.
