Distributed Editors

There was a message a while back from Robert Goldberg of Rutgers
who was working on such a distributed editor.  I have seen his thesis
proposal, which is quite different from the work we are doing at Stanford.
He seemed to be concerned with Z80 64K type systems communicating over
a telephone line.  Our project at Stanford is aimed towards higher
performance.  We are developing a VLSI design editor on a workstation
with about a megabyte, connected via several megabaud Ethernet.
However, some of the trade-offs may be similar qualitatively.
Anybody else working in this area?
