Excuse me for noticing, but this statement of yours in the last note
to editor people had people here rolling in the aisles with its display
of pompous ignorance:

 "... when I wrote the language editor for my thesis, I found I
  needed more pointers than LISP provides - I needed parents and
  left siblings ... (I'm not familiar with MDL but if it includes
  user defined types, chances are good that it could be done in MDL.)"

Maybe its my lack of general experience, but this is the first time
I have seen someone publicly admit to failing to realize that arbitrary
graphs and structures may be implemented using the binary trees LISP
provides. I hope you didn't make it a cornerstone of your thesis.
Maybe this isn't what you were trying to say. In that case, what
was the purpose for the offhanded reference to MDL?
