Many of you will be aware of the recent accidental repeats that occured
in the SFL digest, with one issue going out 4 or 5 times.
For some people this is only an annoyance, but it can be really bad for
those on the usenet. I know of some usenet sites that pick up their news
over 300 baud lines with manual dialing and long distance! They certainly
don't want a slip-up to cause a multiple sending.
That one address at Berkeley in your mailing list actually, for most digests,
probably represents a large bulk of your readers. It might make some sense,
especially if software is being debugged, to handle it in a special way.
Perhaps in all mailings the mailing to that address should be seperate from
the mailing to the ARPA readers - that way if the problem is discovered early,
it will not affect all the USENET readers, but only a few individuals.
Jim said that his SFL problems were solved, but that duplicates will crop
up from time to time. Perhaps the least that might be done is to put the
Berkeley forwarding address last on the list, and to arrange some acknowledgment
from it?
