                               Just some things
                               From Frank Vest

I received a message with an article in it. The person was asking what
the file extension should be since it wasn't listed in the "Guidelines
for Submissions" section.  Taking that as a hint, I've updated that
section to better reflect the sections in the Fidonews.

It should be noted that although the order listed in the "Submissions"
section are valid, not all sections have submissions every week.
Therefore, the order might appear out of order. :-)

    Regards,

     Frank

                   Super Rice Pudding
                       Submitted by:
                [email protected]

1 cup (long grained, white) rice
8 cups whole milk, or "Silk" (non dairy soy milk).
    1 tsp salt
    4 eggs
    1-1/2 cup sugar
    1 cup raisins (Seedless)
    2 tsp vanilla extract
Bring milk and salt to rolling boil and gradually add rice.
Simmer until rice is very tender and milk is almost absorbed.
Stir infrequently in a double boiler until rice is done.
Cool rice and milk to warm.

In a small bowl mix sugar, eggs, and vanilla.
Then stir small amount of the cooked rice slowly into egg mix
(to avoid curdling), gradually mixing all, then back on the
double boiler cooking only until it thickens.

Pour into serving parfait glasses and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Refrigerate with tops covered, until serving time.  Remove
cover and top with whip-cream and a cherry! Yummmmm.
Serves six with "seconds" for a couple of big eaters, like me.

    ________________________________________________________

    Yesterday,
All those backups seemed a waste of pay.
Now my database has gone away.
    Oh I believe in yesterday.

    Suddenly,
There's not half the files there used to be,
    There's a deadline
    hanging over me.
    The system crashed so suddenly.

    I pushed something wrong
What it was I can not say.
    Now my data's gone
    and I long for yesterday-ay-ay-ay.

    Yesterday,
The need for back-ups seemed so far away.
Thought all my data was here to stay,
    Now I believe in yesterday.

                      submitted by: [email protected]

                         Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary
                                      of
                           Tom Corey  and  Caroline

On their 50th wedding anniversary all went splendidly
smooth.  The food was fine, the wine was fine, the bellies
were full and chatter gradually reduced from a boil to a
simmer, even a few stretches and yawns.  The caterer who
prepared the celebration realized he needed to put some
vitality back into the waning party quickly, and called on
Tom to give his friends an account of the benefits of a marriage
of such long duration.  "Please tell us Tom, just what is it you
have learned from all those wonderful fifty years with your wife
    Caroline?"

Tom slowly rises and responds, "Well, I've learned that marriage is
the best teacher of all teachers in the world! It teaches you loyalty,
meekness, forbearance, carefulness verbally, that is abstinence of
vocalized calling on God to damn unexpected demons, a lot of
self-restraint , forgiveness, and a great many other sharing qualities
like with the TV remote control you wouldn't have ever needed...
    if you'd stayed single."

    -----------------------------------------------------------------

                                    MONEY
                             From Anony mouse :)

It can buy a house, but not a home.
It can buy a bed, but not sleep.
It can buy a clock, but not time.
It can buy you a position, but not respect.
It can buy you medicine, but not health.
It can buy you blood, but not life.
It can buy you sex, but not love.

So you see, money isn't everything and it often causes pain and
    suffering.

I tell you this because I am your friend and as your friend I want to
take away all of your pain.

So, send me all your money and I will suffer for you. :-))

    Um.. Cash only Please :-)

                               OTHER STUFF
    =================================================================

                              Some Famous Scams
                         From <[email protected]>

In 1872, veteran prospectors Philip Arnold and John Slack bought
$35,000 worth of diamonds in Europe and scattered them on land in
Wyoming. They managed to convince the Bank of San Francisco they had
discovered a diamond field and made $700,000.

Starting in 1921, Oscar Merril Hartzell began a scam selling fake
shares in the estate of Sir Francis Drake. He contacted as many
families as he could find with the surname Drake and was eventually
accused of defrauding 270,000 people. The hoax netted him over
    $2,000,000.

When J. Bam Morrison arrived at Wetumka, Oklahoma in 1950, he claimed
to be the advance publicity man for Bohn's United Circus, which, he
maintained, was due to hit town in three weeks. He allegedly sold
advertising space to local traders . . . for a circus that didn't
    exist.

By forging signatures, James Addison Reavis was able to claim he was
the legal owner of 17,000 square miles of Arizona. The enterprise
raked in $300,000 a year until he was arrested in 1895 and he was
sentenced to six years in prison.

Joseph Weill, who inspired the movie "The Sting," rented abandoned
banks and convinced businessmen that he had set up a genuine bank. He
waited for them to deposit large sums of money before shutting down
and moving on to the next town. This, plus some of his other scams,
    earned him over $6,000,000.

                           How to Submit an Article

If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
    are the -=_guidelines_=-:

No more than 70 characters per line. This includes spaces.

    No right or left margins.

Plain ASCII text _only_. Good rule is: If you can't type it on a plain
    typewriter, don't use it.

Put a title to the article and your name.
     1. Put the title in two times. The first time should be with an *
before it and the second time, on a separate line, without the *.
This will help in the format since the title with the * is removed
and used in the index and the other one will remain and show what the
     article is about.

Articles that contain vulgar language will not be accepted. (the only
real rule in this whole thing)

Deadline for article submission is Saturday, 12:00 midnight (24:00
hours) according to _my_ clock. I'm in the Central Time Zone in the
U.S.A. That's GMT-6. Articles received after the deadline will appear
    in the next Fidonews.

Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. The file name can be anything up
to 8 characters. Please help by putting the file extension of the
correct subject on the file name if known..

    Ideas for Subject areas:

        Subject               File  |      Subject               File
    --------------------------------|---------------------------------

These are pretty much in the order that they appear in the Fidonews.

If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.

Send Articles via E-mail, Netmail or file attach to:

    Frank Vest
    Fidonet; 1:124/6308
    E-Mail; [email protected]

Please leave me a message telling me that you have sent an article.
That way I will know to look for it.
