Multiple days with little sleep, tech problems, house pest problems, and a
dealing with not being able to stay down long enough to heal have really taken
up my time as of late.

First up, you may notice in the head of the file that I'm back on my MacBook.
That's due to a weird bug I keep running into on my Dell laptop with the LAN
and WiFi drivers. Somehow, it just /stops seeing them/, and nothing in dmesg
or the other logs gives me any idea what's going on. It's as if the hardware
itself just stops existing, though this doesn't happen under Windows 7. And
it's /always/ a sudden thing. It can happen on boot, or coming back from sleep,
or even in the middle of a download.

I've been troubleshooting it for multiple weeks now, and I can't be arsed to
do so anymore while things are happening. I kinda need to be able to /use/ my
machine, not constantly worry if I'm gonna be stuck without a productivity
laptop when I need one.

This is why I prefer older software and hardware. Things just break too much
these days.

The last two months have been harsh health-wise. Between my uncle going
through chemotherapy, my foot injury, having to deal with those two problems
clashing, and my new-found problem of being a light sleeper around very noisy
neighbors (including a FedEx distribution center), I've been a wreck. The only
time I get actual contiguous sleep is with a sleep aid, but I really don't want
to rely on them unless I just have to.

My partner's been helping where he can, but it's a lot for him when he has
issues of his own to deal with.

Here's to hoping things ease up there before too long.

And here, at the end of the year, most people say they hope for a better new
year. For me, I just hope for a tolerable one. It's been five hell years in a
row. We all need a break.
