So, I'm dragonkin. I don't announce it all the time, but I am. And one joke a
friend of mine makes is that my hoard isn't physical, but rather in data. I
tend to pidginhole files across many media formats, across multiple drives, on
multiple storage systems. I've been burned by data loss on more than one
occasion, and I aim to never deal with it again.

Well, I'd lost my BBEdit licence code at some point, but while looking for my
Parallels Desktop 7 code, I decided to boot up my iMac and check there. And to
my surprise, not only did I find my BBEdit code, but everything I needed to
activate my copy of Scrivener 2, which was made useless when eSellerate was
bought by another DRM company. I *immediately* backed all of that up in several
locations, because I don't wanna lose it again. Still no sign of my Parallels 7
code, though. I'll just grab VirtualBox off one of my storage drives, since I
need it for something ancient anyway.

I also found the old Intel NAS one of my partners and I bought at a Goodwill
back in Austin. It's a four drive NAS that's about the size of a small desktop
machine, made during the XP era (don't remember when, exactly). 2GB drives are
its limit, so I'd like to max that out at some point just as either a backup
solution, or for my data hoarding. Not entirely sure yet. Admittedly, I also
want to get it up and running after my FireWire drive's enclosure decided to
burn up. That was a surprise when I cracked it open...

In other news, I started logging into XMPP a little again, and might
even try jumping on IRC once I've mentally recovered a bit more. But I've also
gotten interested into the Phoenix[0] and Escargot[1] projects. Seeing MSNM and
AIM potentially coming back as a niche community is actually good, in my eyes.
With most of the modern IM solutions only working on modern systems, it's nice
to see more options for vintage equipment. Just need more ports of the clients.
