Title: [Rant] Why leaving social media might be a good thing
Date: Jan 12, 2019

I'm honestly tired of the callout culture that runs rampant on social media. From Twitter, to Facebook, to Tumblr, to Mastodon, it just keeps getting worse. Mob justice and rule are the theme of each day, and it never stops. Even with a curated timeline, it will always make its way into your life.

And you know what? I know plenty of people who've left social media completely, and they're much happier for it. They don't have to deal with all of the bullshit of having everything they say held under a microscope, only to be judged by people who really don't matter in the end. For some, their depression is gone, or at least controllable. For others, their anxiety isn't nearly as bad.

So why haven't I completely left social media? Well, two reasons.

1. Some artists are heavily relying on sites like Twitter for posting their works, and ignoring gallery sites. Artists that I like to see the works of.

2. Some people don't use anything else to keep up with others. People that I want to keep in contact with.

And yet, I keep letting myself be subjected to the hell that is Twitter, when I really shouldn't. My anxiety is already bad enough to affect my writing, and it sends my mental state into really bad places.

I'm once again on the fence of just letting my Twitter account stagnate. I don't have it active in bitlbee, and I don't use the phone app, so it's not going to be usable outside of the website anymore. I mean, what's the point in punishing myself with that place anymore? There really isn't a reason for it.
