Title: [Review] Apple Magic Mouse 1 and Magic Keyboard 1
Date: Jan 11, 2019

I recently bought an Apple Magic Mouse 1, and a Japanese layout Apple Magic Keyboard 1, both from ebay for about $60 combined. And I have to say, I'm rather happy with them.

The Magic Keyboard 1 is much like the model A1243 Apple Wired Keyboards, or the A1181 MacBook keyboards. Very shallow key travel, but very nice to type on. They're chiclet keyboards, so don't expect massive mechanical keys here. But the low profile keys are much easier to feel out when I'm not looking at the keyboard, and I'm not a touch typist at all. And the battery life seems to be quite usable compared to something like a Logitech wireless keyboard.

The Magic Mouse 1 is a bit…short, but it still feels nice to hold and use. The touch surface is very nice to use, though a bit on the sensitive side when scrolling. It's very heavy compared to most wireless mice, too. A feature I'm beginning to appreciate. The movement speed isn't all that great, but that's what tracking settings are for.

But the most important part for me—and the reason I got the Apple Magic 1 devices—is that they allow for removable AA batteries. I use rechargeable batteries in my devices anyway, but having removable batteries is so important for when those batteries begin to wear out. If they're not easily replaceable, it makes the device practically worthless. It's why I'm not really a fan of how difficult it is to replace the battery in an iPhone...or the Apple Magic 2 devices.

That said, I'm happy with these, and I'd like to buy a set for my MacBook at some point. For now, I'll keep them on my iMac, though.
