    =================================================================

    Greetings,

When it comes to children and schools, then I have a soft heart,
as that is were our future is.  They are the leaders of tomorrow.

What happened in Zone 1 this past week is not what I normally would
discuss here and perhaps is not the place for FidoNews, but I'm sure
you will forgive me if I make mention of the incident.

So, no news from Zone 1 about the election for a new ZC as yet.  Whats
    happening people?

BTW.  I have not seen or heard a word from our IC. Is he still with
us?  I don't know, but it appears that we may need a new one soon.

    Happy reading,

Ripples in the Stillness of Fido
    Douglas Myers, 1:270/720
    [email protected]

Andrea Santos cast a small stone into the waters of one of the Zone
1 echoes last week.  Her projectile was a small information-piece
concerning the recent shooting in the United States of fifteen high
school students.  The small ripples from her post immediately drew a
tidal wave, protesting the waste of bandwidth on this topic.

Andrea apologized for the post, stating that it was posted to the
wrong area... but pointing out that the bandwidth in question was
not particularly overused at the moment.  Argument ensued, ranging
from observations that Fido should not be burdened with an event
already given saturation coverage by the national press... to
observations that the debate on bandwidth had already exceeded the
    bandwidth originally wasted.

In perspective, this episode will be one of the smaller skirmishes
on Fido.  It will soon be forgotten as we argue over down nodes
which have been listed too long, or worry that Alec Grynspan is
going to merge one of Jim McLaughlin's echoes with an internet
    newsgroup.

What should be remembered, though, is that many of us on Fidonet
seem more willing to devote our bandwidth to what cannot be done,
than to dedicate our efforts to what CAN be done.

    Latest Greatest Software Versions
    by Peter E. Popovich, 1:228/158

Well, it has been quite a while. Been wondering if I should come
back. Guess I just did. <grin>

Everything is out of date. I've got a backlog, but while I catch
up on old mail, I also want to get new mail as well. So write me.

There's been some speculation about web page listings and e-mail
addresses for this list. I do plan to add them to the web version
of this list within the next couple of weeks. Please send them in.

Please note the new contact info:
