gophernicus for Debian
----------------------

The default document root is /srv/gopher/ [0]. The gophernicus package
does not create this directory; system administrators must do so. A
sample gophermap which can be placed at /srv/gopher/gophermap is
included at /usr/share/doc/gophernicus/examples/gophermap .

By default, gophernicus is controlled by systemd. In this configuration, the
start-up options are controlled by editing /etc/default/gophernicus.

It is also possible to control gophernicus using inetd or xinetd. In either of
these cases, the file /etc/default/gophernicus is not used. To use either inetd
or xinetd, you should disable systemd support:

   systemctl disable gophernicus.socket

To enable gophernicus support in inetd, you should run the following:

   update-inetd --enable gopher
   kill -HUP `cat /var/run/inetd.pid`

To enable gophernicus support in xinetd, you should edit the file
/etc/xinetd.d/gophernicus and restart xinetd.

[0]: This deviation from upstream's default of /var/gopher is to comply
with Debian Policy §9.1.1, and Filesystem Hierarchy Standard §5.1
    and §3.17.1.
