# On goals

There is nothing wrong with setting goals, as long as you are the one
setting and benefiting from them. There is no harm in having some
ambition to improve yourself or your situation.

From time to time I set myself a goal, just to feel that I am making
some progress in life. Usually for the purpose of attaining or
expanding on some skill.

Recent goals have been to pass my foundation exam so that I could
participate in amateur radio. Then once I attained that, I set myself
the goal of learning morse code.

You can however hide behind goals as you can set new ones
indefinitely. They can be a distraction away from things that you
should be doing. Often these are the things you really should do but
don't want to face.

To quote Aldous Huxley - "The most valuable of all education is the
ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it has to
be done, whether you like it or not."
