$You will definitely need both hands to attack the spider. You hand the
$glowing globe to Laurus and whisper a few words to him. Even as you
$speak, the evil spider begins to decend from the ceiling of the
$corridor.
$Your heart racing with fear, you move under the decending spider. It
$draws closer, and it will soon land upon you! Laurus throws the
$beetle's light-gland at the foul beast, and it smacks the spider in its
$stomach. All eight legs reach upwards clasping the ball of light in a
$reflex action.
$Before the spider can regain its balance, you rise and thrust at its
$black belly with your sword.
$The spider crashes down, dropping the glowing globe. It's furry legs
$twitch, but the life ebbs out of the monstrous body. It soon dies, and
$you cut your way through its sticky web.
$"We did it! We did it!" yells the exited halfling. "I helped! Did you
$see?"
$"Yes Laurus, we did you it," you say, slashing away the last strands of
$the web. "I knew you would do just fine, and you did."
$You hurry away, pleased to have won the battle and emerged without a
$scratch.
\
$Ahead of you the corridor divides into two new passages, one to your
$right, the other sloping down to your left. The passage on your right
$looks like the timbers supporting it are old and unsafe.
$"Which way should we go?" you ask the halfling.
$"I don't care," he replies. "I'm not scared of anything! I'll go
$either way! Watch out monsters, here comes Laurus the Brave!"
$A rat comes squeaking out of the passage on the right, and Laurus jumps
$behind you.
$"Laurus the Brave?" you ask. The halfling does not answer
